I started working on www.LiveChime.app early this spring with a co-worker. The pitch is LiveChime is the easiest way to build and communicate with a message list by orders of magnitude. A message list (if you are unfamiliar) is a contact list of messenger ids or phone numbers. To start we support SMS and Telegram.
The initial audience for this product was live streamers looking to boost their actual live audience. In particular, I thought there would be added appeal to streamers that had a solid following on social media but low numbers on their live streams.
It has taken months after launch but we finally landed our first paying customer. They are a new live streaming show out of Philadelphia and are exactly the target I was aiming for.
Lots of cold call emails, phone calls, “interviews”, posts, hours of listening/watching “how to” sales content, and reading one book and the first customer came from my existing network. I’m still learning and developing my ability in sales and honestly all of the information I have learned has been helpful. Even if the bit of content I have created has not built a following yet, it has helped a great deal in my own understanding of the market and where LiveChime fits. Although none of the 100’s of emails, DMs, comments, video calls, and phone calls lead to a sale yet, my confidence in doing all of them has grown and my fear of having to do these types of things in the future is all but gone.
One paying customer is certainly not a success story but that zero to one step has proven to be extremely difficult and important. We still need to consider product/strategy changes but it feels wonderful to get this first customer signed up!
I remember an IH post a little while ago where it took the person about 6 months to land their first customer. It really helped me to hear from someone else that had the same struggle and persevered. Figured I’d try to keep the spirit alive for anyone else working towards landing customer numero uno.
Good luck and hang in there!
