Web 1.0 for fun and (maybe) for profit

Los Angeles is a big city with lots to do. Over almost a decade of consuming things to do around Los Angeles, I figured I'd try to make a very simple web 1.0 website that helps people find interesting stuff in the city. Why? well - reddit is polarizing and noisy, googling is difficult, and the city is huge. It's hard to find the little treasures in the city.

I wanted to make something that was fun to visit and only evoked positive emotions. No comment section, no moderators, nobody posting their negative opinions and fighting with all the other users, no database to manage, no user privacy concerns, no user information collection (other than whatever google analytics tracks). Just something to enjoy. A return to what made the internet fun - finding weird websites that have good information.

This is an experiment in getting back to basics. Can getting back to the basics drive enough traffic to sell ad space? Can I create a quiet and relaxing niche on the internet that helps people enjoy things in real life? I'd like to find out. LA is a big city (roughly 3 million adults). I figure you only need to capture 2-5% of those people to drive enough traffic to be profitable. My only expenditures are the domain name so profitable means earnings more than $30/year. Its cheap, its fun, and I think it has growth potential.
