Week 1 Recap

Hey all! Excited to be here.

Just wanted to document my newsletter (www.thepregame.co) journey somewhere and thought this would be a good place in case anyone can learn from it (or give me pointers). The PreGame is your local sports news & updates in a short & digestible format.

Things I did in the past week:

  1. Register a domain name via Google. All the ".com" endings were taken for my newsletter name but figured .co would work.

  2. Built the MVP website on WordPress & Elementor Pro. Kept it basic - image backdrop with the logo with a signup form & testimonials.

  3. This part was painful - signed up for MULTIPLE newsletter/email services:

  • Revue: I liked the ease of use & the out-of-the-box services - but it was hard to connect to WordPress so I gave up.
  • Email Octopus: They were was also hard to connect to WordPress forms (had to pay for additional plugins in Elementor and didn't want to pony up)
  • ConvertKit: I liked it a lot - but I felt designing a newsletter was super hard and I needed my design to be unique to stand out.
  • MailChimp: I eventually decided to go with Mailchimp because of the design capabilities & the ease of integration with WordPress. It looks to be a bit pricey - but for now, I'm under their free tier 🙂
  1. My first newsletter to STRANGERS goes out Thursday so I've been prepping for that (I send out mine every Monday & Thursday). Before, my friends had signed up for it. This is the first time people I don't know are signed up. Wish me luck... it's quite scary wondering if people will like your format, style of writing, & content.
