Rosie here -- the Indie Hackers community manager. Welcome! 👋
This short guide is meant to help you get the most out of Indie Hackers.
Indie Hackers is a community of people helping each other build profitable businesses and side projects. The key word here is "community." Don't be shy!
For starters, take a second to introduce yourself and share your goals in the comments below. 👇
Just say a few words about who you are, why you're here, and what you hope to accomplish or learn in 2020.
Take a moment to say hello to someone else as well!
We've interviewed hundreds of successful indie hackers. I recommend reading a few of their stories. It's a great way to get an overview of what's possible.
@csallen also puts out podcast episodes if reading isn't your thing!
There's no time like the present. Check out the "Start Here" page for a list of practical steps and articles that can help you take action.
Not only will it help you get started, but it should also introduce you to some of the best parts of the Indie Hackers community.
This is just the tip of the iceberg! If you're ever feeling lost or confused, post in the Meta group or tag me (@rosiesherry) in any comment or post.
Don't forget to introduce yourself and say hi to someone else below! 🤗
Hey everyone! My name is Jeff. I just recently turned 60 and figured, "Hey! Seems like this would be a great time to start a side hustle" 😂
So that is what I am doing. Looking forward to meeting everyone and giving back to this community that I've heard such great things about!
There is nothing like an age limit to explore new things!
Thank you, I agree!
This is awesome. It’s never too late to build something worth value!
Thanks, I'm trying my best!
Great to have you here! Best wishes for your side hustle. Anything specific you're interested in?

Hi! I'm @fade3638 and wanted to introduce myself. My team and I are building a monetization solution for video. We're in the bay area. Open to convos, allies, resources, or if you want to join us.
Hi, Fade welcome! I'm Santiago and have been around for four months, one of the things I wish I knew when I was getting started is just how important Twitter is.
After some months, I've gotten pretty decent at it and would love to share with you or other new IHs how to get started. If you would like more info check out my service and schedule a session free of charge.

Hey everyone! I'm Vanessa, a Product Design Director during the day and a wife/small business hustler during the night.
During the pandemic, my wife lost her job. We took that opportunity to start a small business, something we could take as a side project, and that we both feel passionate about and make it fun for us: an online gift shop of uncommon, whimsical products.
https://randomshitstore.com/
I'm here to learn as much as possible from others with similar businesses and get feedback. Our goal with this store is to be a place for adults to be kids again, and have fun, find exciting things that create small moments of happiness.
Other businesses inspired us. However, they've been online for a long time. They have become a trusted brand, have a built relationship with manufacturers, and higher product stocks. We are also clear that we cannot compete with Amazon or other big retailers.
We also want to have a purpose, something related to our roots. We are an LGBT married couple. I'm from Venezuela and my wife from Colombia. We both live in the states both grew up in a very closed-minded environment and as teenagers, we know how hard it was to be yourself, so part of our sales will be donated to LGBT organizations as well.
I wasn't sure how much to share on my first post, but I'm looking forward to learning from this community! <3
I love your site, it looks fantastic!
Thank you Ross! @FearlessFODMAP
Hi! I'm a ex-silicion-valley engineer who never did anything entrepreneurial before. I'm now getting my hands dirty with a B2B idea in the chemistry laboratory space. My partner (and cofounder) has been getting into entrepreurship recently and is also very familiar with chemistry labs. I recently quit my day job, and I'm planning to devote 3 months to building out an MVP and enabling my partner to test the market. The goal is mainly to give my best shot at this "first startup idea" and learn from the experience.
I've only recently started browsing this site but I'm looking forward to connecting with the community! See y'all out there!
Hi all! I'm Casey, a former YC Founder and software engineer that is passionate about solving hard technology problems and finding a place for them in the market. I'm currently working on Wrble (https://www.wrble.com) to deliver a high speed, low cost logging service for developers.
Hello!
I'm a 17 Year old, teaching myself how to code, and have created a few games which I hope to start making revenue from. I am trying to do what I can, whilest still in high school before I get to University to study Software Engineering.
Hopefully I get to know a lot of you here!
Hi!
Im a software developer based out of Dallas, TX. In my spare time I like working on small side projects, but until recently hadn't considered making a business from these projects. I found my inspiration from https://tinyprojects.dev/projects and since reading this collection of blog posts I started listening to the indie hackers podcast...so here I am.
I'll be posting projects here soon!
Hello!
We are Leo & Tom, and we're working on venn (https://www.venn.click).

Just started on Friday, and we're building it in public so you're welcome to follow our journey here and on Twitter (@venn_click).
Would love to hear from tweeting sellers out there :)
Have a great week everyone.
Thanks Rosie.

Hi I'm G2,
I'm looking to make changes within the music industry as a industry producer and developer i understand the pain points we have as artists and what can be done to make independent artists become more successful through technology.
Hello my name is Augustin, and I am working with my little brother on a project named PlantMyForest. :)
I have read this website's content since months and now I am jumping the step to properly join this amazing community ! ;)
Hi everyone! I'm Chantelle, longtime tech marketer.
I caught the creator / entrepreneur bug, and I'm just starting on that journey now. I thought it'd make sense to take advantage of connecting with people who were at various stages along the same path.
I'll eventually need a technical cofounder, so this community might help in that regard, too.
Reach out if you want to watch me build via twitter or my newsletter
Hey, I'm Ross @FearlessFODMAP. I'm writing a cookbook for the Low FODMAP diet, a niche medical diet for people with severe digestive issues. I founded a music tech startup, it failed and my health failed with it. While in full time treatment, my doctor put me on the Low FODMAP diet. I'm hoping to take lemons and IndieHack my way to lemonade by publishing The Fearless FODMAP Cookbook - everything I've learned about how to creatively work around dietary limits and creating culinary masterpieces.
I'm here to learn, chat, and hopefully help some other founders. Say hi!
Hi Ross - great focus here. Bringing awareness to a really important issue. Wishing you luck
I love this idea, Ross! Self-care is vital, and it's usually something not looked upon favorably in tech (especially startup environment).
Hello, I'm Felipe. I've been working on a project for a while now, it's a tool to create mechanical contraptions with no code https://mockmechanics.com/ or maybe it's a game, I'm not entirely sure yet. I posted it on Show Hacker News recently and the response I got was incredible https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24934722. Because of it I'm confident I created something good, now comes the next part, how to monetize it and how to promote it and I'm a bit lost. I'm looking forward to being part of this community, where people are trying to do the same thing I am so we can help each other.
Hi! I'm Aaron, a serial entrepreneur that took important roles in several startups. As of now, I am taking part in a project I truly believe in and it is called Clemta. It is a SaaS platform where any business owner(even if you are not a US citizen) can form, structure, and even dissolve a company in the United States with ease in the shortest time possible. Take a look at our services at https://clemta.com/ and please feel free to bother me if you need assistance on related issues.
I have created a tele Heath application focusing on holistic health and I’m just getting started .. Wellie ... thanks for having mehere

Hi,
I am Vibien. I am here to get feedback on my projects from more experienced people. I will also try to help others whenever possible.
Hi all, long time lurker, first time commenter.
I'm friends with a few people here IRL and it's taken me a while to commit to building something. I have been a developer the last few years, and a financial analyst in a previous life. I'm currently living in Taiwan with my wife and son (we came even before COVID).
I've been contracting here and there with the goal of having independence of time so I can work on making things useful for other people.
Recently, I've been trading options and making an income that way and I thought, what better way than to build something that I'd be using everyday and open up to others to use as well.
I also want to step out of my shell a bit and work in public, mostly for the accountability, but also would build my skills in writing, presenting, teaching, etc.
Shout out to @andrewlundy. Your mission sounds like something I can really get behind!
Hey @wrrnwng 👋 Nice to meet you. I will keep in touch, and share what I’m working on. I’m currently freelancing as an iOS Developer and using that as a vehicle to 1.) build an apiary and 2.) free up time so I can work more on my own products; both apiculture and non-apiculture related.
Looking forward to connecting.
Hi, I'm a software located at Colombia, this website looks really amazing!!!

Hey everyone! Montrell here.👋🏾
Back in april I bought into the idea of buying and selling businesses for a living.
After a few months of studying I finally pulled the trigger on an e-commerce store: www.aidosbrand.com
It was pretty straightforward process. I brought the store from the market exchange site.
I'm still learning and that's what brings me to IH. looking forward to meeting and potentially working with new people. Would love to connect.
Thats interesting.
Hello, name is Orunyi. Recently got really interested in wanting to code, yes i know it is different from what is seen in the movies. I had a friend direct me here and i hope to be welcomed and learn from everyone within this community.

Hey !
My name is Bryce, I am 24 and I am a Computer Scientist that worked for 2 years in the Data Science field. I am now willing to use my skills to create side-project, and hopefully live from that at some point. I'm looking forward to this community !
Hi Bryce, on this day i am new, what is it like being a data scientist?
HI Rosie and everyone, honored and happy to join, started as a number cruncher, did investing and trading, and moved on to writing about tech + myths + history + macro. A lot of pent-up desire "to make" finally met cute with "start". After reading / lurking around @rosiesherry 's substack/Notion and Jack Butcher's community, listening to @csallen 's pods on repeat, and enjoying @arvidkahl 's book and stream, I have to start. Thanks!
Hi everyone, my name is Dan! I’m mainly a music producer / mix engineer, but I’m looking to expand on my software experience especially in development for audio products!
Hi Dan! Would love to but heads and talk about audio product software dev ideas.
Hey Kulture! Absolutely I’d love to chat! Have you ever worked on any audio products before? I have been recording music for a while, but I only have a couple years of experience in Software primarily from school or person projects.
Hi Vyntage! I've never actually worked on an audio software project. But I do work with audio software tools in the production of podcasts, and similar media. I've imagined some web tools that could help innovate in that space perhaps. I'm sure you have some awesome ideas as well, I'd love to hear them.
Hello everyone, I'm Anand aka Andy from India, a 22 year old developer turned entrepreneur. Currently I am building PieSocket.com - A managed WebSocket and pubsub solutiton for businesses.

Hey everyone! My name is Uday Attili and I'm 24 years old, working as a full stack developer and had a startup in the past. I tried building multiple startups earlier and most of them were failed, I found this community as a blessing and hoping that with the knowledge and guidance I get here may bring success this time.
Hey all, my name is Algirdas and it clicked so well with me when I heard about indie hackers. I have always thought that building business using venture capital is a very stressful approach. So bootstrapping during the night, while having a full time job seems what should work for me.
My idea. I want to build a DRM - data ralationship management software. With my background in analytics I have witnessed first hand how quickly the setup can get messy. Nowadays it is so easy to use some ETL tool to fetch your data to a data warehouse and then do all the magic using front end tool like PowerBI. But as the scale of things grow, it's very easy to loose general overview of dataflows and find yourself spending a ton of time just supervising if the data pipeline did not encounter any errors.
So I will build a tool that will plug into a datawarehouse, map ralationships there, then plug into BI tool and expand the map.
I am sure I can do at least an MVP version of this.
Will keep you updated!
/Algirdas

I am still in the very early stages of my project (I don't have any users yet) so I thought that coming here would be a great place to connect with the community and figure out how correctly do this 🤣. Happy to be here, cheers!

Hey! I'm Atray from Jaipur, India. In the past I've been a entrepreneur working with Artists of all genres music, dance, standup comedians and more. Over the last 8 years I've worked with over 200 artists.
Now I'm transitioning to becoming a Business Coach to artists to help them start and grow a business themselves. Already worked with a couple of artists but there's a fear of failing them somehow. And that's where I'm stuck.
Recently I started curating Twitter threads on and about Passion Economy which allows me to learn from others and contribute to the emerging field.
But I also wanted to create Digital products around this field and I still don't have a lot of clarity on those yet.
2 goals for the month of December 2020 -
I'm challenging myself to launch a product every month but couldn't do it last month, so piled it up on this month!

Hey! My name's Chachi. I'm a civil engineer turned data engineer, I changed careers early this year. I've been building web apps for the last 5 years and still learning new things everyday.
I came to the realisation that what really makes me happy and fulfils me is freedom. Regardless of a great salary or even working in a field I enjoy, a modest income on my own terms beats that any day of the week! I'm hoping to launch my first micro-SaaS by the end of the year and hopefully connect with some like minded entrepreneurs here.
Time to turn some of these side projects into businesses! :D

I'm a developer who has been infatuated with entrepreneurship since before I graduated college when I got my first dev job working at a startup. Ever since then, I've been scouring the internet to find any way possible for me to quit my 9 to 5 and dive headfirst into creating my own company SoHeart (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/soheart/id1517723134 (https://soheart.app)). I am now the full time entrepreneur that I've always dreamt of becoming. Minus the bank account 😂😂😂. Definitely still broke lol but not for long! Stay Free, Stay Courageous, Stay Happy. With ❤️ - 🐉

Hello - my name is Grant and I'm the founder of Tree Schema, the human-friendly data catalog.
I started Tree Schema as a side project to solve a problem that so many data users seem to face - there are no affordable and easy to use tools to capture and explore metadata (e.g. data lineage, rich-text documentation, tags, the "table-stakes" for metadata management).
Since then I've been on the data engineering podcast and the feedback along with the growth in customers has been amazing! I'm looking forward to sharing more of my story here with everyone soon!
Long-time Indie Hackers podcast listener finally decided to check out the website!
Hi, I'm Andrew, an anologue fish out of water. I've been trying to get traction with an idea for a few years so I'm making a fresh start in 2021 and hoping IH can help. I'm also hoping that I can help others along the way to at least be the crashtest dummy for what not to do.
Hello there:) I am an 35 yo mathematician and dev freelancer, based in Hamburg, Germany. I am currently trying to learn how to evaluate and prioritize business ideas before wasting months. I have fallen prey a couple of times to the regular "Build and they will come"-falacy. Happy to be here!
Hi! I'm Simon Blok. A developer, maker and lover of simple, beautiful and fun to use products. Always having 'great' ideas, but always drifting from idea to idea. Hello,
My name is Ben, and I’m the founder of SkyRocket (https://sky-rocket.io).
I’ve been working on SkyRocket since Covid started flaring, trying to fix “The Progression Problem”: the best way to level up your career is to switch organisations.
The product is a skills matrix on steroids, and it launched just over two weeks ago. It’s targeted at small and medium tech companies, and the selling point is that it allows people to create a skills matrix for their organisation in minutes (https://sky-rocket.io/skills-matrix).
Looking forward to connecting! Feel free to message me here or on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ben-wallman-4956a4b4/
Thanks,
Ben

I am about to start a new journey for a potential product I am calling ShowQase, which is Linktree content sharing + Patreon monetization + MightyNetworks rebranding.

Hi everyone! My name is Josh, I'm a 35 year old full stack developer, with an emphasis on DevOps and cloud native. I've been lurking in the IndieHackers community for about a year or so and have finally decided to join in.
I've got a bunch of unfinished side projects, but these past few months I've focused on cleaning up a simple Ruby on Rails app I built in 2014 to manage my freelance client details and generate PDF invoices; with the aim to turn it into a SaaS product. It's not a very exciting app, and CRM/invoicing is obviously a saturated market, but I've been using it for the past 6 years and it's worked well for me, so I figure maybe it'll fit the needs of someone else too. Or maybe not. We'll see!
I figure I'd ask the community here for some feedback on the app, maybe write some progress posts, and hopefully contribute back where I can.
Hi guys!, I’m olodoCoder, I’m African, I’m currently a nobody hoping to become a somebody by creating cool startups, I’m open to friendships too, I don’t discriminate ✌🏾

Hey My name is Awais Ahmad I'm a fresh Graduate in BSIT and looking for team so that I can start my career as a software engineer .
hello Rosie..:)
Hi everybody! I'm Filip, CTO and co-founder of SessionLab - workshop planning made easy - a bootstrapped SaaS business that's been growing steadily for several years. While we were busy with building the product and learning the hard way what it means to be entrepreneurs, we forgot one crucial thing, networking :) So now I'm here in hope of learning from the community, finding great people that might want to join our (still very small) team (we'll be hiring first thing in 2021) and sharing my experience when I can.
Hey Filip Nice to see you here. Do you have any work related to me I'm a fresh graduate in BSIT with very good score 3.52 CGPA. I'm happy to join your team. I have a great interest in Saas .I would like to become a part of your team. Looking for your response. Thanks
Hi @withawais. Thanks for reaching out. At the moment our next immediate need will be in the senior/lead position, but I'm sure we will have some other openings more suitable to you down the road. I'll be sure to keep you in mind.
Hi all, I'm an ex Product Manager turned self-taught Frontend Developer who left a job in March to go to another one...which fell through due to Covid 😫 After a half hearted new job search and several unexciting offers, I decided now is the time to pursue other avenues. I turned 40 in August and thought it's now or never! I've since collaborated with a back-end engineer and we're about to launch a super light weight customer management tool for one person/non tech businesses.
Other projects include a collaboration with a Diversity & Inclusion consultant, working on a learning & engagement platform for Startup founders seeking to build inclusive work teams. Also, a Developer interview site with a collection of real technical tests to bring more transparency to the hiring process.
I started listening to the Indie Hackers podcast a few months ago and reading some posts here and honestly this community has been my lifeline, inspiring me and keeping me sane! Thank you Courtland and all, I can't wait to keep learning from you and share my experiences too 🤗
Just starting a career in Web Dev, thanks for this opportunity

Hi, my name is Michael Robinson. By profession, I am a Product Manager with a technical background. My vision is to create software that enables a completely new operational model for business that is built on and fueled by capturing and leveraging knowledge. Everybody seems obsessed with data, but data is just an extra burden without context, insight, veracity, timely relevant availability and consumable format. Cracking this nut will produce businesses that always outperform the competition. It requires complete integration of all functions; delegated authority along with accountability; collaborative rather than competitive mindset; genuine full application of agile principles across all business functions; and skill-based compensation and advancement. If this vision of transforming business to a more human-centric egalitarian low-friction self-directed constructive working environment appeals to you, say hello and let me know how your product idea or skills might intersect with this mission. At the very least, we'll have a fascinating conversation.
👋🏽 Hello everyone, my name is Javy. I’m a Puerto Rican from North Philly. I’m currently working on a UX Nanodegree from Udacity. My capstone will be a product that I will be looking to get into market once I’ve completed the course. I’m interested in potentially teaming up with a local developer to get the project off of the ground and start a business. I already have a customer waiting. I’m eager to learn from the great entrepreneurs here that I’ve been hearing about 🤝
Hi everybody! I'm Rodrigo! I'm not precisely an indie-hacker because I run a more "established company" but, I'm here because I've got fascinated by some indie-hackers stories. Looking forward to contribute with what I know!
(BTW, our company provides professional translation & localization, if you need this, here's a link: www.languageburo.com)

Hi there! My name is Alice and I've helped build Clerk.Chat the SMS solution for Slack. You can bring your existing Twilio, RingCentral (or other) number and enable two-way conversation all inside Slack.
Don't have a number or want another? We provision numbers too!
The project was a challenge to build everything for Slack, natively, with no outside accounts or restrictions. In 11 months we're nearly at $3,000 MRR and 89 paying customers :)
Would love to share our experience building the product here!
Hello! I'm @MorFinTech and I'm starting a newsletter!
The newsletter is called MorFinTech and, as of right now, is a weekly newsletter sent out every Monday morning at 730am with an aggregation of links to the hottest news in the fintech industry. I just started a couple weeks ago and want to grow to 1000 subscribers as my first goal by 3/2021... seems ambitious but I don't really have any metrics to compare to so who knows.
If you're interested feel free to subscribe at - morfintech.substack.com
Hey everyone! I'm a PM at PartnerStack based in Toronto.

Convodo enables you to talk to your users with live-video chat embedded directly into your website (or in your app). If you want to join the beta - signup and you can test it out for free. Always open to convo's / feedback.
Thinking of building this publicly and looking forward to learning / meeting the community. All the best!

Hello! My name is Colin. I've been programming since I was 14 (that was in 1994 or so) and I'm currently working on a side project called Unmark. It is an open source to do app for bookmarks. You can find it at http://unmark.it - from there you can get a link directly to the source, you can sign up for free, or you can choose to support development/hosting by purchasing a premium account. All optional.
My current goal with the side project is to grow it enough to help it sustain itself and fund future development - perhaps even create a Mac app for fun.
I also blog at http://cdevroe.com
Hi All, I'm Tony, a longtime software guy based outside Boston MA. I've been working on https://braintool.org as a personal side project for quite a while and using it as I go. I recently cleaned it up and got published on the Chrome App Store. IMHO it's pretty useful and I'd love to see it get some love from someone other than myself!
Tony - I love this! One question - sometimes I take lengthy notes (usually in OneNote) and I would like to be able to reference some of those pages as a URL in braintool. Is that possible? What I am trying to build is an index and search of every location where I store important information.
Hi @birdnerster, thanks for the love! The BrainTool extension can store anything you can open in Chrome. In addition to regular web pages I tag gmails, photos, google docs, linkedIn profiles, Slack channels etc. I'm not a OneNote user but if you can get a URL to your note and open it in Chrome then you can easily tag it into your BrainTool file. LMK what you think if you try the app out!
Hey there IndieHackers!
Darja here - CEO and Co-founder of https://bunch.ai/. My team and I are building an AI leadership coach that empowers anyone to become a better leader in just 2 minutes a day.
A few years ago I quit my psychology PhD and started coaching founders, discovered that the tactical wisdom of great leaders is buried in the minds of experienced managers, and hidden in books and scientific papers I was familiar with.
After a few years, our team asked ourselves - What if learning how to be a leader was as easy as learning a language with Duolingo, a meditation session with Calm, or a Peloton class?
And just over a week ago, we celebrated our launch and are live on the app store! https://app.adjust.com/4hhe1tu
Feel free to follow us on any channel - we're building in public and looking forward to being a part of IndieHackers.

Hi!
I'm a business-minded sales/marketing/growth/product gal who has had some success building things that make money. The last project I created brought in $1000/week at its peak. I walked away from it to return to tech.
Since discovering IH recently, I'm motivated to jump back into side projects. Excited to learn from this community and possibly find a technical partner to hack with! :)
Hi Rosie,
Hi Everyone,
I am a software engineer based in Lagos, Nigeria.
I built a web platform (in beta) that allows developers make software faster. It asks them for information about their MVC project, it then uses this information to create a preview web application and generate source code in c#, java, and php for them.
The product website is at www.codejoh.com.
I am here to learn about everything i can towards making my product a successful startup.
I am also open to helping in the community in anyway i can.

Hey there,
I’m on a mission to build a sustainable future for bees and humans. You can read more about this if you’d like: https://rustynailsoftware.com/about.
I originally planned to freelance and use that as a way to save money to build an apiary. I’d then work on products once our first apiary was up and running; but I’m not happy freelancing. I’d much rather be working on my own solutions, and building my company in the way that comes more natural.
So, I’ve set out to build my solutions and do this the indie way (until I can afford help!). I’ve got a couple of product ideas in the pipeline; and not all are related to apiculture. That said, the main goal always stays the same - build a sustainable future for bees and humans. All my money goes towards this mission; whether I’m building an apiculture-related project or not.
I’m really looking forward to being able to connect with other builders of the future.
