Wero Is Coming. Your Card Fees Don't Care.

Everyone keeps asking when Wero comes out. Here's the thing: it already did. The EU banks' answer to Visa, Mastercard and PayPal is already sitting in ~50M European pockets, moving money bank-to-bank with no card in the middle.
But "out" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.
The timeline:

2024: P2P only. Splitting dinner in Germany, France, Belgium.
Late 2025: Online checkout lands in Germany (Lidl, Decathlon, Rossmann). Rollout was messy, some shoppers hit error screens.
2026: Online spreads to France + Belgium. QR in-store starts. Luxembourg joins, Netherlands' iDEAL begins its slow absorption.
2027: NFC tap-to-pay finally arrives (slipped a year). iDEAL fully retired.

So if your picture of "Wero is out" is tapping your phone at the till, that's a 2027 picture. And it's Eurozone-only. No UK rollout, possibly ever.
Which leaves a gap. If you're a merchant bleeding ~2.8% to card networks today, a 2027 roadmap doesn't help you this quarter.
That's where Zahlo comes in. Same idea as Wero (pay straight from the bank app, cut the card networks out), except it's switched on now and covers the UK and Germany, not just the Eurozone. Flat 1% + €0.25, money landing in seconds, a little cashback back to the shopper.
Put a number on it: on a €40 basket, a card fee is ~€1.12. Zahlo's cut is €0.65. That's 47 cents a basket you stop handing to a network, and across real volume it's a line your finance person notices.
Think of it as Wero before Wero. Live today, broader coverage, self-serve setup, no six-month enterprise sales cycle. Wero is coming in pieces on its own timeline. If you'd rather start saving on fees now than read another rollout press release, come have a look at Zahlo.
