What building a SaaS for small businesses taught us about feature bloat

When we started building Saleoid, we assumed small businesses wanted more features.

We were wrong.

What they actually wanted was:

• fewer tools
• simpler workflows
• less configuration
• software that works out of the box

Most SaaS products don’t suffer from lack of features but from too many disconnected ones.

Every new feature adds:
– another setting
– another learning curve
– another place things can break

Feature bloat isn’t just a product problem.
It becomes an operational problem for users.

The lesson we’re learning:

Small businesses don’t need enterprise complexity scaled down.
They need clarity scaled up.

Curious, what’s one feature you never use but still pay for?

The interesting tension is whether simplification actually improves CRM adoption, or whether small businesses simply tolerate complexity because switching costs are high. Curious what progress you’re seeing with Saleoid so far — are users actually using more of the product because it’s simpler, or is adoption still the bigger challenge?
