What do you sacrifice for your side projects?

"Stealing" time from being with your family? Friends? Hobbies? Sleep?

I changed my habits. Used to try and do these projects on the evenings. But then I realized that with 4 kids and full time job I'm simply too tired in the evening to make any meaningful progress.
So instead I go to sleep earlier than I used to (22:00-23:00, used to be anywhere between midnight and 2:00am), and I wake up at 5:00AM for 2 hours of clear mind and quiet time that allows me to have real progress.

Man, I'm father of 3 and "enjoing" fulltime job, hustling during night time, but well - I will definetely try your approach, sounds very well!!

        Good luck @guzguz
I've been practicing this since April and it is working very well for me.
You just have to keep yourself from the habit of going to the computer in the evening. Go to sleep instead and you'll be much better in the morning

I see it more as an investment. The goal is to 'earn' time in the future by spending time now.

But I have stopped playing video games and I don't go to as many parties as I want to.

    Sleep. And it shows 😔

Full time job + commute. Wife and young kids (3yrs and 6mo). So the only spare time I have is on the evenings after the wife and kids have gone to sleep and I’ve done whatever house chores need doing in preparation for the next day (dishes, laundry, etc)

same here... (wife & 3 kids). We have to be extra patient because progress is slower due to limited time :P

Hobbies! My co-maker and I used to play games together on weekends but we refrained from doing that while we were hustling for our first product together. Our reward for launching was being able to play together again LOL

Sleep - I found that I need 6+ hours to function properly. Anything less, and I start to drift off when things get boring.
Gaming - there's a graveyard of unfinished games when I "retire". looking at you Batman Arkham series & Mass Effect series.
    Never family time.

Interestingly enough, I've found watching mediocre tv series while programming actually keeps me motivated and free from other browsing distractions. Has to be something that's not that interesting tho - netflix has plenty of those :P
