What genre is this song issue
I make music and don't know what genre each track is. It's usually an educated guess. Especially in electronic music there are so many sub-genres. Is this techno? Bass house? Synthwave? I get lost because it never fits any of the genre molds perfectly plus I'm not an expert at all the genres.
It's a bit annoying because everywhere you submit your song they ask what genre it is and I'm almost always guessing.
Would be awesome if someone made an AI that went through a bunch of songs to see similarities of different genres. Then you could maybe upload a track and it would tell you which genre was closest.
Would you pay to fix that problem?
Maybe I don't understand the issue cause I ain't in the niche, but it sounds like an unimportant unsolvable problem.
What's the cost if you do it wrong/poorly?
What do you do with artists/songs that do that deliberately try to be on the edge/cross overs, mix genre, create new sub genre... Even experts in that industry don't know what to do with many of these...
It used to be there were big categories that had clear cut hard rules, but I think it doesn't upkeep with the times... and amounts of content and deliberate non conformity... and non definition..
Like sure it's doable to some degree, but it would be hard to get to a high level and I wonder if it's even valuable... what's the gain to make the categories more hard decision by an external tech party.. I imagine the experts would just deliberately want to say it's wrong by easily making up new things, to keep themselves relevant...
I would probably pay but not much, maybe a dollar a song or something.
The cost is varied, sometimes poor reviews because reviewers are upset that "this isn't bass house".
Ultimately I think it would be useful and interesting. If the program told me the track was 68% bass house and 32% tech house, I would find that very interesting and useful.
The hard part would probably be to have people label current tracks and what genre they are as a reference or for the AI to learn from.
I doubt it would be a huge money-making endeavor but who knows. It was just an issue I'm having lately so thought I'd post it.
