Jen has been featured on some extremely popular publications, had a successful Hacker News launch and yet, the numbers are nowhere near what one would have expected from such exposure.
Jen said it herself. She's out there encouraging others to make personal finance apps! There is a niche out there for everyone. For a one or two person team, all you need is a few thousand users and you're set. I'm pretty sure no matter how narrow you go, you can find a niche.
My own venture is a personal finance app, and I have so far focused on the bank integration aspect and to do it "properly". My niche is people who care about online privacy and security.
My initial instinct was to team up with someone who has a good app and connect that with my back-end. I contacted quite a few people to that end (including Jen!) but now I believe I have the motivation to go all-in on this myself.
Worst Case Scenario
I make the app and no one uses it. But in the process I would have learnt a lot and I would have a fully functional app that meets my needs.
I'm okay with the worst case scenario. Anything more is bonus.
Looking forward to hear your opinions.
