I’ve been a startup founder for just over a year now and as my current journal is almost full I decided to read back over it before buying a new one. I didn't really have a goal in mind - just see what I'd written, what I'd learnt etc. One thing stood out to me from the 365-odd pages I've written and that's how many small wins I've had.
I expected life as a founder to be big notable steps and achieving audacious goals, but progress has largely been at the micro level. And it's all these small wins that have led to my success.
But I don't recall celebrating many of these wins. Sure, I celebrated when I hit 2k MRR but that was because it meant I could quit my day job.
I honestly believe that If I'd recognised the hundreds of other small wins, like my 1st customer, or my first returning customer, or fixing a bug, etc. I may have appreciated the journey to date a bit more.
So, today I want all indie hackers, founders, makers, etc. to celebrate their biggest small win. What is it? Let everyone know in the comments, and don't forget to take a moment to pat yourself on your back for achieving it.
Enjoy the journey!
Fixing a design issue on my webpage that had been bugging me for months. I could sleep properly after that, haha.
@rmondo my biggest small win was getting my side project idea validated by the potential users which are freelancers in my case. In just 2 weeks I managed to get 35 free users for Glyph (www.glyphleads.com) with a current website conversion rate of 21%.
So now all I've to do is drive more & more traffic to the website & just enjoy looking at the subscriber count! 🥳
Got laid off during Covid
Never went back to employment
Created a product in 1 week. I often started working on projects but abandon them midway so I decided to crunch the timelines. Here's the outcome: https://diffudle.com/
This is really important. I've definitely fallen foul of hustle culture - nothing I do is ever good enough. Completely changed my mindset these last few months after suffering from burnout, I'm now taking things slower and recognizing my achievements. My biggest small win is settling on a pricing structure that saw me gain 7 new customers overnight! I was averaging 1-2 new customers per day at that point, so 7 was a big boost to my revenue.
