What to do when you have been copied?

As indie hackers, we are often operating at someone's mercy. After talking with Substack, I was shocked when they launched a feature very close to my site's core functionality.

After reflecting, I think this is actually a positive thing and I wanted to share my perspective.

Yeah, unfortunately, this is a standard play from seemingly ecosystem companies. They allow others to develop tools on their platforms and then push their products on validated spaces. Substack previously did that. Shopify, Apple and many others do this.

When you are playing on other people's territory, it is tough to stay ahead without triggering an arms race because any additional features might get a response (in the form of copy-pasting on their part).

    Godspeed on your endeavour.
