What would you pay?

I’m trying to come to an appropriate price for my app, Dumbify.

Dumbify is a minimalist launcher for iOS that seamlessly blends into the background of your homescreen. The minimalistic design is intended to reduce your screen time by keeping your homescreen clean and clear of notifications.

My questions for you...

1. Would you rather pay a one time purchase, or a recurring fee?

2. What would you consider to be "too expensive"

3. What would you consider to be "too cheap"

4. What would you consider to be a "fair price"

P.S. Something to consider is that I will not be monetizing the app with ads as I believe that would break the user experience.

Example Response

  1. Fixed
  2. $10
  3. $0.99
  4. $3.99

Any feedback is always welcome, and if you are interested in the product, I have a waiting list: https://tally.so/r/npKL8q

    Hi Anthony,

I like the concept, I struggle to keep focus at work because there is always the temptation of things flashing on my phone.

For something like this, I would prefer a one-time payment. As it's not something I'd be actively engaging with, I would find it difficult to financially justify a monthly payment for it. I would personally pay around $5 for it.

I really love that you've started with a waitlist. What is your strategy for validating the idea before you start building?

Thanks so much for your input @marilynmags! This seems to be inline with what I've gathered so far!

I've definitely taken a different approach with Dumbify compared to my previous projects. Typically I built the product first and then tried promoting it afterwards. This time around, I've been building in public to gauge interest while I build. My waitlist has been a big part of gauging interest in my app. I tend to attract about 5 people per day to my waitlist by just being active on various platforms like Reddit and Twitter. To me, this is a fairly strong indicator that there is indeed a demand for this app.

That's a really sensible approach, I am trying the same thing with my project. In the past, I've also spent months building something then found it difficult to drum up interest when the MVP is finished. What's your twitter handle? Would love to follow your journey with this.

Yeah, I've had the same issues as well! Yeah, my twitter handle is @agburkholder
