What's the first thing you ever tried building?

It was 2005 and I wanted to make an internet radio station. So teenage me built a website, uploaded some mp3 files of random music files I found or recorded, and learned Flash and ActionScript and made a little player. All it did was play 12 audio files in a loop. It was terrible. But it worked, and that was the beginning of many, many projects.

We built some sort of decentralized pinboard running on IPFS where you could pin memes and pictures to a website. For every post you made, you had to pay a little fee using Ethereum.

Funny idea, but never gained any traction. However, it was very valuable because we learned a lot.

When I was 15, I used to sell computers and install networks (like running ethernet cables, getting the computers connected to each other. This was in the 90s.)

One client wasn't happy with their accounting software since they needed special features for their industry. Since I knew Microsoft Access, I figured I could build a full replacement accounting package for them in a few months, and for less than $5000! I worked night and day for a month and realized I'd massively underestimated the size and complexity of the project.

I gave them their deposit back. Luckily, they were cool about it, and they still hired me for their computer/network stuff again. So it was also one of my first lessons in the value of having open, honest communication with customers, and choosing customers who can reciprocate that honesty by being collaborative.

I had just started learning to code for the Web (Django) and wanted to start a business.

I heard the advice build for problems you're having so I started building a tool that allowed junior developers who were still learning to code before getting a job a chance to partner with senior developers on side projects.

It would help senior developers with long and easy tasks like HTML/CSS and give the junior developer real world experiencing instead of building just another todo app.

Learnt a lot about coding. Never finished coding it :)

What's the first thing you ever tried building?

Actually, my first project is https://www.colorsandfonts.com.

What did you learn from it ?

I have learn a lot from it to be honest. From HTML, CSS and basic JS to marketing going through SEO, GitHub, NPM... including the terminal, Linux, Figma, typography color theory, UI, UX...and ways to monetize it....

I started in February more or less, it has happened so much, and I still have lots to learn I guess.
But I enjoy it as a kid with new shoes.

Now because I have some plans for it, so I am going to learn some backend so the users can be part of it too.

Where is it now?

Well, is up and running, growing slowly, but growing...from 20 to 30 users daily back in June to not coming down from 150 with a max of 316 since June and weekends Saturday is low and Sunday is a bit more than saturday.

This is thanks to almost spamming fb groups, the 8 place on PH, prototypr.io, Muzli Magazine by InVision and posting new palettes, in Instagram, Twitter, Dribbble, Pinterest...and submitting it in directories, like more than 30...

Then has been crossed posted in asian blogs, in fact asian traffic is huge, very similar to USA, I can't describe how thankful I am...

But yeah, if all goes fine building the backend so...I am going to be so thrilled is going to be a journey...

i got into coding originally cause i had an idea for a book. I realised no one would read my book unless i turned it into a webpage. The webpage meant i could send it to people much easier. I wanted to release the book on my 21st birthday. but as usual i was late!
