What's the story behind your idea?

Most advice says to scratch your own itch or solve other people's problems.

What are you working on and how did you find the idea / problem?

I'm working on https://thesidekick.app/. It's a productivity tool to help you block internet distractions and focus on deep work. It was inspired by my own relationship with technology and that of my friends.

    What's the story?
My partner and I were spending hours and hours distracted online. For my partner (Arlex), it was endless Youtube rabbit holes about basketball, crypto, funny memes, etc. I was watching whole seasons of Netflix shows in one day while scrolling on Instagram the entire time. Then, little by little, we realized this was not healthy nor what our potential was.

Arlex was the first who wanted to change and improve. That’s when he read David Goggin's book, “Can’t Hurt Me.” It inspired cold showers, waking up early, runs rain or shine, and wanting to learn and be better. He kept telling me to do the same - but ha I didn’t :P.

I remember this quote he told me: “There are 86,400 seconds in a day. You either grow or decay. Are you growing or decaying?” I responded “Ha. I just watched 5 episodes of Parks and Recreation.” That was the first moment I wanted to improve. And of course, he inspired me.

He ended up learning full-stack development and he knew exactly what problem he wanted to use it for: help others eliminate their internet distractions.

    I sheepishly asked “Can I help? :)”

Doctors suffer from information overload, especially in the form of walls of text in our EMRs and reference resources. I found myself turning to google-images constantly to shortcut the information retrieval process so we built an image-based medical reference tool (https://www.grepmed.com) for things like checklists, algorithms, guidelines and more.

I think of it as unbundling instagram and pinterest but in a way that's useful for clinicians.

I’m working on https://bowwe.com/- web builder.

    What is the story?

I had many interactions with international clients and talked with people. Seven years ago, I ran an agency and helped small&medium businesses grow. Many clients at the time came to us with WordPress sites asking to develop and maintain it; at the beginning, we did. We ran for them a few additional projects, designing portfolios, vouchers, etc. These brought them effects, and they expected more.

I realized it wasn’t profitable enough for me to do so and came up with a solution, developing a web builder that focuses not only on the design of the site but also on the growth of the business.

I really believe the best ideas come from listening to people, talking and observing them and solving their problems. And having a vision for it that would inspire others.
