I'm curious to know what everyone's strategy is for podcasting.
Do you hope to make an income from it? Or do you plan for it to benefit your or your business in a different way?
Or perhaps something else that I've not though of? 🤔
Podcasting is my life-blood!
It's how I pay the bills, so I'm hoping to turn myself & my podcast into a high-value resource & living example of the podcast production services & training I offer.
My strategy is sort of a synergistic loop:
As I thought about starting my podcast recently, I realized I wanted a different way to share my thoughts and findings.
Having a blog is a great way to share this information I but I was finding it a huge time sink (totally my mind blocks causing it). I thought sharing the similar information via podcast might be a better process for me.
I don't expect it to make much if any income from the podcast (but then I don't make anything from my blogging either), just want to give back to the community.
You could use the podcast to sponsor yourself - throw in a light-hearted self-promotional midroll driving podcast listeners to Pod Hunt, perhaps?
The IH podcast doesn't make any money. It's some combination of a public good and a content marketing strategy, although I haven't quite capitalized on the latter. In the near-ish future I'd like the podcast to do a better job at the following things…
1 - what would the specific podcast-focused list be for exactly?
2 - have you checked out SmashNotes.com by @kirill ?
3 - what's the workflow & purpose of this onramp?
Content we can repurpose- I know of just the right place! 😎 For you @csallen, I've got a team of engineers standing by to build any customer features you want.*Turning transcripts into interviews sounds great. Even if I've listened to an episode, it can be super helpful to have a distilled version in text form to review.
I'm looking into doing something similar but it's a lot of work.
I created the show I wanted! How I Built This, but for tech founders, telling the creation stories of their products. However, not just a podcast interview - but a story, narrated with music and driven towards a reflection on the real stuff people may not normally ask about (mistakes, what would you do differently, what was the MVP like, etc.)
Love it! How's the podcast preforming? Is it something you'd be interested in monetizing?
I just want to exchange ideas and meet interesting, thoughtful people. Both of those things often lead to money in the long-term, but it's not an immediate goal.
I'm in it for the same reasons. It would be nice to make enough to cover editing and hosting costs but I'm not in a rush.
Podcasting is def awesome for getting in the door to meet influential people, it's great because everyone loves talking about themselves and would gladly spend an hour with you to do so!
Personally, my goal for Rad Dad was to create an outlet for my creative drive, while I was mostly spending a lot of time with my children and did not have the mind space to do a startup. A podcast seemed like both, a fun creative endeavour, and a manageable one.
It has also turned out to be a great way to learn more about my friends, and to meet new ones. Most people would come on a podcast, not only because it's cool, but it gives them a new medium to talk about their interests. It's a magnitude easier to speak on a subject than to spend days to write a blog post about it.
