Why aren't you a tech advisor yet?

This is a question that many of the people I look up to have been asked time and time again. "Oh, you have experience as CTO, you could become a tech consultant.", "Why not start mentoring startups? Don't you have passion for the industry?"
But, in my mind, this seems like a disingenuous way to approach this career. After all, it requires more than experience and passion, you'd be putting hours into helping others succeed and always struggling to give advice that meshes well with someone else's goals and sensibilities.
There's also the issue of control as you'd have more say over operations in your own company than you likely will when advising.
