Why do so many teams ask for dashboards when what they really need is clarity?

One pattern keeps coming up:

People ask for dashboards when what they really seem to need is clarity.

Not always, obviously. But often enough that it feels like a real product gap.

A lot of reporting tools do a decent job of showing information. Far fewer do a good job of helping someone understand:

-what matters
-what changed
-what deserves attention next
-and whether the data underneath is trustworthy enough to act on
That seems to be where a lot of reporting breaks down.

The output may look polished, but the important questions are still hanging:

-what should I pay attention to?
-does this change anything?
-what needs checking next?
-can I trust this enough to act on it?
I’m much more interested in that layer than in adding more visual noise.

Curious how others here see it:

Do you think people default to dashboards because that’s the tool they know, even when it’s not the best solution?
