Why we stopped rewarding creators for stuffing tags

Shipped: fixed the part of our scoring model that was giving creators bad advice
We were scoring YouTube tags the old way — more tags = better score. Some tools still reward 15+ tags.
Turns out YouTube's own data says 5–7 specific tags is the sweet spot in 2026. Beyond that, diminishing returns.
So we rebalanced:

Title: 46%
Description: 36%
Tags: 18%

Also added a Topic Alignment score that checks whether your title, description, and tags are all pointing at the same topic. Mismatched signals confuse the algorithm.
Small ship. But getting the fundamentals right matters more than adding features.
