Lately I keep seeing the same question everywhere:

Will AI replace SEO in 2026?

I’m building a SaaS in the SEO space, so this comes up a lot. I wanted to share my honest take based on what I’m seeing in real usage, not hype.

For context, I’m the solo founder of SERPtag — a lightweight rank tracker that also helps monitor AI visibility (how and where your site shows up in AI tools).

What is changing:

1. Generic SEO content is dying
AI answers basic questions instantly now. If your strategy is writing surface-level “what is…” posts, that traffic is going to keep dropping.

2. Search behaviour is shifting
People are using ChatGPT and other AI tools earlier in their research. That means fewer clicks for low-intent queries and more pressure on content to actually be useful.

3. SEO without tracking doesn’t work anymore
You can’t just publish and hope. You need to know:

What keywords are moving
What new terms you’re ranking for
Where AI tools are surfacing your brand (or not)

What SEO still does extremely well:

1. High-intent searches
People still Google when they’re comparing tools, services, or solutions. AI hasn’t replaced that behaviour.

2. Long-tail problem solving
Specific searches with clear intent are still ranking and converting well, especially in niches.

3. Compounding growth
Well-structured blogs that target the right keywords continue to stack over time. I’m still seeing this firsthand.

What I’m doing differently now:

I don’t treat SEO as “just Google” anymore.

Track keyword rankings daily
Identify new keywords I’m ranking for and expand content around them
Monitor AI visibility to see whether SERPtag (and other sites) are being referenced or surfaced by AI tools
Focus heavily on intent over volume

My take for 2026:

AI won’t replace SEO.

It will replace:

Lazy content
Guess-based strategies
SEO without measurement

SEO is becoming more strategic, more intent-driven, and more data-led.

The people who adapt will keep winning.
