Some SEO experts have found out that comments contribute zero value to blog posts. Yes, comments are nice to have on your blog, because in a way, they help you improve your content. However, comments are not a necessity.
It is totally your choice if you want to allow or disable them. If your comments section is causing you a lot of resources, and your audience do not get any or much value from it, then maybe you should consider disabling comments.
Personally, if I would have my comments enabled, I would take time to read through them. If most of the comments do not inspire a valuable conversation between my readers or do not valuably contribute to my brand, I would consider disabling them.
I enable comments on my blog because I think it's important to engage with my readers and encourage open dialogue.
Interesting.
And it doesn't matter if it slows down the loading speed of your website?
The comments can be lazy loaded, so they don't slow it down at all!
Interesting. Thank you!
If you mean "zero value" as being zero SEO value, then most likely the case is that most comment systems are loaded via AJAX which are not read by bots. Disqus is probably the largest commenting system (no real numbers to back up that claim) which is loaded this way. So I'd like know more about the data these SEO experts are looking at.
How does Disqus contribute to starting a valuable conversation?
It’s a commenting system, tell me how it doesn’t.
Being a commenting system doesn't mean people would make valuable comments on it. You don't want to have a comment section where everywhere is "nice," "good," etc. Doesn't bring value that way.
I don’t think the commenting system chosen matters for that. People are going to express themselves regardless of the method. Community building is what creates healthy dialog.
