You are Your Mentality

In addition to posting about hands on business things, I find it just as important to include talking about internal things that have had profound effects on getting me to where I am thus far. These talks will be a reflection for myself, of which I hope you all can take at least a sentence, and use it to improve your own daily life.

Today, the power of mentality.

I have always been hyper. Some may call it ADD, some annoying, but it just is who I am. I also have a never ceasing mind that is constantly firing on all cylinders analyzing both every external and internal facet of my life. I actually do like this until sleepy time rolls around because it's just a constant rewind of every negative thing ever. Anyways, with that in mind, one day I read a book I am sure most of you have read and all of you have heard of. Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell. To this day, still one of my favorite reads.

This book changed the way I lived my life, plain and simple. One of the golden rules of the book, is 10,000 hours. It takes 10,000 to become a master at your craft, whatever it may be. Now there are 24 hours in a day, 168 hours in a week, and 8760 in a year. This means that if you dedicated every single hour of your life, no sleeping, eating, hell you probably wouldn't even be able to breathe, you still probably wouldn't be successful.

This is where mentality comes in. You have to want to do something. Whatever that something is, you have to want it like it is something that someone stole right out of your hands. You have to adopt the mindset that you deserve what you're seeking, and go and get it. No one will give you a handout. But, I can promise you that if you put in a level of effort that 99% of the population won't, you will be a part of the 1%. It really is that simple.

Well what does this effort require from a mentality standpoint? You need to take the role of being a boss of yourself. Act like you are running a business already, and you have to report to a higher-up (yourself) every day, week, what have you, your progress towards what your goal is. The only person who can hold you accountable is you. You need to make decisions based on where you want to be, not where you are.

Okay that's it for today it was getting long winded. Until tomorrow. Hope everyone had a day of progress.
