Your Competition is Smaller than you Think

Maybe this is obvious, but I recently realized that when you get really specific about your goals, there's basically no one else going for the exact same objectives as you.

This is so true! And even when there is a lot of competition in a niche, you often only need to carve out a small slice of the market to be successful.

I love this, Madison! I personally struggled with feeling overwhelmed by not only competitors but also entrepreneurs, makers, indie hackers, etc. in different industries. It felt like there were a million tasks waiting for me every day if I wanted to be successful. I found it extremely difficult to focus and was guilty of analysis paralysis.

This year, I’m learning to take the saying “comparison is the thief of joy” to heart. So far, setting small, tangible weekly and daily goals for myself has made a huge difference in not only my productivity but also my happiness level 😀

When launching or planning a project or setting a goal, things can get a little scary. When you see the number of things you have to do, the finish line seems way too far to reach.
So this mindset is actually great and it really helps. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Absolutely @taskett. This is on point. I actually happened to write about a similar sentiment in the email newsletter I sent for Startup Sanctuary this morning.

"We all have our own unique experiences and insights that make up who we are. The great thing is that no two peoples experiences and insights will ever be the same. However, at the same time, we can all relate to one another by sharing what we learn through these unique experiences....In order to translate your knowledge and insights into products and services, you need the tools and processes to enable you to create bespoke offerings and value for your potential customers "

"The great thing is that no two peoples experiences and insights will ever be the same." Very true Gordon!

This is a good mindset. Prevents being overwhelmed and helps with defining specific goals early on.

" It's actually all the companies / individuals solving the same problem, which is way more broad" that's a good point- I see the same thing at my day job, that our main competition is people building their own solutions vs going with a specific competitor.

I agree that it's a good thing! If there are a lot of solutions, then there's a proven need for the problem you are solving.
