Over the years I’ve made the mistake of spending too much effort creating content.
Here's why focusing on creating a lot of content may backfire.
You've often heard that “Build it and they’ll come” doesn’t work.
It's true.
Especially as an indie creator and solopreneur where your funds are very limited. You can’t wait forever for your business to take off.
What good is creating tons of content if no one knows about it.
I should have been more strategic about creating content.
Instead of spending 100% on content creation, I should at least allocate 50% on content promotion.
Promotion is equally or more important than creation.
For anyone making the same mistake, I hope this is a wake up call for you.
Be bold in promoting the content you've worked so hard to create.
I agree, but how do you go about it? 😊
What do you consider a good promo strategy for every blog post, presuming you're putting out, say, 3 posts per week, and need to make it sustainable.
What are your numbers?
If you optimize 1 post to a way it gets better numbers than those 3 a week, wouldn't it be better to focus on 1 a week?
Pasting my reply above here:
Re-use your blog content. Paste them to places where your target audience already hangs out.
Of course, engage with them too and genuinely be helpful. Don't just post your content all the time.
I don't worry about SEO duplicate content at this stage as it's a totally different ballgame. You can always come back to SEO later on when you have the time and budget to do so.
It's true to some extent.
I uploaded weekly videos to YouTube, promoted them in a few groups.
But the content SUCKED so hard that it doesn't matter where I would promote.
Now after creating many videos I can spot good VS bad content. That could only happen by creating lots and lots of videos and content.
So make sure your content is high quality before you promote, and who decide what's high quality? Mainly the audience but after some time you develop a sense for it.
Definitely put out the best content you can.
Well said. Also, a lot of people think that content is just a one-off post whereas you can reuse your content in a smart way. If you push your content several times you'll end up gaining visibility :)
If I spend 3 hours on writing, I spend at least 1.5 hours on promoting the content. You are completely right!
I agree with you. I used to write a lot of content and just waited for Google to rank them on search engines without doing any promotion. Can you also share with us your content promotion strategy so that we can learn from it?
Here's what I'm doing:

You're absolutely right.
Content doesn't magically sell itself.
However, I think it's also very important to write content that converts.
A bottom-of-funnel "how to" guide in solving a crucial problem using your product is worth its own weight in gold; other forms of generic audience-building content, not so much.
Vast majority of traffic of Zlappo comes from Google, and from just one article.
Strategic content that converts is absolutely important. Most people talk about writing top of funnel content, your tip on writing for bottom of funnel content to get people to convert is refreshing to hear.
