I've read a lot about remote work from the employee side, but I'm also very interested in how the remote experience works for founders and managers.
What's it like to manage a remote team? What're the best/worst parts of your day-to-day? Did you discover any surprising challenges or pitfalls that come with leading a team remotely?
I've got a few hacks that helped me stay focused when working from home.
I made a
LinkedIn Videowhere I share [one of the hacks] (https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6645322157729689601/).Here's a little neat trick that I learned over the years of working remotely.
π Start time
π End time.
The idea is to have an established start time and end time while you're working remotely.
There are many advantages for doing this.
The biggest for me is knowing that:
β° I have a limited amount of time,
βοΈ I have a list of MIT* I need to complete
π That has dramatically increased my productivity.
Let me know if that helps!
I've been managing remote teams for 3 years now, and it's awesome! I've also had the good fortune of working with some awesome people, so that made it easier.
The best part, for me, is the freedom that remote work allows everyone. Sure, all of us being pretty much forced to work from home nowadays isn't ideal, but you have so many options: the team can literally be across the globe; you can always have someone "on call" if your team spans a lot of timezones. Plus, team chats are fun on video - at least in my experience.
The challenge is finding the right balance between work and life. In the first couple of weeks of working from home, I was a wreck - I couldn't stop working, because I was always "in the office". I made sure to make a ritual of setting up my work station for the day, and cleaning it out at the end of the work day, as well as turning off notifications. And obviously, doing the same for your team - you should be aware of the way they spend their time and try not to intrude on their personal life.
