I built an iPhone app around this insight.
The pattern I noticed: tabs I kept open weren't things I wanted to bookmark. They were things I hadn't decided yet. A flight to compare. A product to pick. Instructions to follow.
Bookmarks save "where." They don't save why, when, or what next.
So I built Tably:
- One page at a time, optional reason, choose when it returns
- You close the original tab yourself (the app never scans your tabs)
- Local by default—held items stay on your device
- Free
The decisions I made:
- No tab scanning or history access. The app receives only pages you share.
- No account. Your data never leaves your device.

Framing open tabs as unfinished decisions rather than saved information changes the problem quite a bit.
The deliberate absence of tab scanning and accounts also says something about what Tably is choosing not to become.
