Brickify

Hey Indie Hackers,

I wanted to share the story of how my wife and I built and launched our new side-project: Brickify.fun (a tool that turns real photos into custom LEGO® minifigures using AI).

How it started: For our wedding, we wanted to give our guests a truly unique keepsake. So, we decided to build a custom LEGO figure matching every single guest. It was a massive hit! But the process was a nightmare—we spent countless hours manually scrolling, searching, and matching hairstyles, faces, and outfits for over 80 people.

The validation & spark: Seeing our guests’ faces light up made us realize there was something special here. Shortly after, I thought: Can computer vision automate this tedious matching process?

I built a quick prototype linking an AI model to a curated database of official LEGO parts. To my surprise, it matched hair, face styles, and clothing elements with incredible accuracy.

Building in Public: My wife took over the branding, marketing, and design direction, while I handled the tech stack (Astro, React, Serverless API). Together, we turned the prototype into a fully polished web app. Users can now upload a picture, instantly get their matched pieces, download composite avatars, and get the official part codes to buy them in real life.
