September 4, 2026 Show IH: I built a downloader that doesn't fake 4K — 32 platforms

Hey Indie Hackers 👋

I built ClipPanda — a public media downloader that actually tells you the truth about source quality.

The problem that drove me crazy:

Every downloader out there promises "4K." But when you actually download, it's 1080p that's been upscaled and relabeled. Then there are the redirects, the pop-ups, and the sketchy sites asking for your cookies or passwords. I got tired of it.

So I built the thing I wished existed.

What ClipPanda does:

Honest quality — 4K only shows up when the source actually has a genuine 2160p stream. No upscaling, no fake labels.

32 platforms, one tool — YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, and more. Each adapter passes live tests before release.

Real formats — MP4, WebM, MP3, M4A, OGG, GIF, WebP, JPG, SRT, VTT. Whatever the source has, you can grab it.

No credentials ever — No passwords, no cookies. Public media only. I'm not interested in bypassing paywalls or DRM.

Batch downloads — Queue up to 5 links. Each one succeeds or fails independently.

MCP integration — Pro users can connect ClipPanda to Claude or ChatGPT. Your AI can analyze links and return short-lived download URLs.

What I'm still figuring out:

I'm rolling out all 32 platform adapters gradually — each gets a dedicated page and passes live tests before I ship it. Long-video infrastructure is still being stress-tested.

Two questions for this community:

  1. Which platforms would you want to see next? (I'm prioritizing based on demand)

  2. Does the MCP/AI integration actually feel useful, or is it overkill for a downloader?

I got tired of downloaders that promised 4K but delivered upscaled 1080p. I was tired of redirects, pop-ups, and mystery labels. And I definitely didn't want to hand over my cookies or passwords to some sketchy site.
