## Why I Built This
Here's the thing: I've always been fascinated by precious metals, but every time I wanted to check what my old jewelry or scrap gold might be worth, I'd end up jumping between sketchy websites with outdated prices or overly complicated calculators that felt like they needed a PhD to operate.
I thought, "There has to be a better way." So I built one.
GoldCalc is my answer to that frustration – a straightforward tool that tells you exactly what your gold is worth right now, whether you're holding scrap gold, jewelry, or bullion.

## The Tech Stack
Kept it lean and focused on reliability. The real challenge was finding a solid data source that updates frequently enough to be useful without breaking the bank on API costs. After some experimentation, I landed on a solution that refreshes every 30 minutes – frequent enough to be accurate, efficient enough to keep running costs reasonable.
## What's Next?
Right now, GoldCalc does one thing and does it well. But I'm curious about where to take it next. Some ideas I'm playing with:
- Support for other precious metals (silver, platinum?)
- Historical price charts
- Mobile app version
- Dealer discount estimations
