πŸ₯‡ Introducing GoldCalc – Know Your Gold's Worth in Real-Time

Hey Indie Hackers! πŸ‘‹

I'm xixi1997, and I'm excited to share my latest side project with you all: [**GoldCalc**](https://goldcalctool.com/) – a dead-simple, real-time gold value calculator.

## Why I Built This

Here's the thing: I've always been fascinated by precious metals, but every time I wanted to check what my old jewelry or scrap gold might be worth, I'd end up jumping between sketchy websites with outdated prices or overly complicated calculators that felt like they needed a PhD to operate.

I thought, "There has to be a better way." So I built one.

GoldCalc is my answer to that frustration – a straightforward tool that tells you exactly what your gold is worth right now, whether you're holding scrap gold, jewelry, or bullion.

## What It Does

- ⚑ Real-Time Pricing: Updated every 30 minutes, so you're always working with current market values
- πŸ“Š Live Value per Gram & Oz: Get instant calculations in the units that matter (USD)
- 🎯 Simple Interface: No clutter, no confusion – just enter your weight and get your answer
- πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ US Market Focus: Tailored for the US market with clear, straightforward pricing

No hidden agendas, no affiliate links trying to sell you something. Just clean data and honest calculations.

## The Tech Stack

Kept it lean and focused on reliability. The real challenge was finding a solid data source that updates frequently enough to be useful without breaking the bank on API costs. After some experimentation, I landed on a solution that refreshes every 30 minutes – frequent enough to be accurate, efficient enough to keep running costs reasonable.

## What's Next?

Right now, GoldCalc does one thing and does it well. But I'm curious about where to take it next. Some ideas I'm playing with:

- Support for other precious metals (silver, platinum?)
- Historical price charts
- Mobile app version
- Dealer discount estimations

## I'd Love Your Feedback

If you've ever needed to value gold (or think you might), give [GoldCalc](https://goldcalctool.com/) a spin and let me know what you think. Is it useful? What's missing? What would make it more useful?

Also, if you're working on tools in the finance/commodity space, I'd love to connect and hear about your journey!
