Hi everyone — I'm Lori, and I just launched K9Alert, a GPS-based safety app for anyone approaching unfamiliar properties or neighborhoods on the go: delivery drivers, mail carriers, utility workers, bikers, and more.

The idea came from realizing there wasn't a tool built specifically for people who might run into an aggressive dog while out on unfamiliar territory — most existing dog-safety resources are aimed at owners or people in their own neighborhood, not people just passing through.

K9Alert uses crowdsourced, real-time GPS alerts — users get a heads-up when they're near a location where a dog concern has been reported, and can submit their own reports with one tap. Reports stay current through community input (marking them as still active or resolved).

A bit about me: I'm a solo, non-technical founder — I don't code, and I built this from scratch anyway, learning as I went. It's live on Google Play now, in early days with real users just starting to come in.

Would love to hear feedback, questions, or if anyone's dealt with similar safety challenges in their own work. Happy to answer anything about the build process too, especially for other non-technical folks thinking about building something.

    The crowdsourced coverage feels like the real constraint here. Curious whether the early users are mainly delivery/utility workers with repeated exposure to unfamiliar areas, or everyday consumers — because that difference could determine where you can build enough report density to make the alerts consistently useful.

      Fair point on density being the real constraint — genuinely curious how you'd approach solving that differently. A few company-specific apps already do something similar for their own drivers, but they're siloed to that one company's fleet. K9Alert's angle is being useful across companies and for people without an employer-provided tool at all — freelance couriers, gig workers, utility contractors, etc. On density specifically: the 20m alert radius is tight enough to stay tied to a single property rather than blending into neighboring homes, so the app isn't trying to blanket-cover every house in an area — it's flagging specific known risks. Since it's relatively uncommon for two adjacent homes to both have aggressive dogs, even sparse reporting still captures most of the real risk points, rather than needing dense coverage everywhere. More users naturally improves this further, which is why early growth is focused on driver/courier communities.

        That’s an interesting distinction. The difference in willingness to pay between the MCP experience and the web product is especially worth watching as you test the positioning.

            That makes sense — I was mainly thinking about the crowdsourced coverage question. I’m curious whether most of your early users are actually delivery/utility workers, or whether you’re seeing everyday consumers adopt it too.

              As this app was built with privacy in mind, there is no way to determine who is using the app. There is no registration. Simply download, and use.

                That makes sense. The privacy-first design does make the user mix harder to observe, but it also keeps the barrier to trying it very low.
