Personalized AI song gifts from real stories
I did not set out to build an AI product. I simply wanted to give my girlfriend a gift she had never received before.
I have always cared deeply about making important moments feel special. Whenever I prepared a gift for my girlfriend—who is now my wife—I designed a different experience around it. To me, the surprise is not only the gift itself, but also the journey of discovering it.
One Christmas, while she was watching TV as usual, the screen suddenly began playing a film of the memories we had made together. While she was absorbed in it, I quietly changed into a Santa costume behind her. When the film ended and she turned around, “Santa” was standing there to hand her the gift.
I am also a magician, so I am used to designing unexpected moments for an audience. That has taught me that what people remember most is often not the object itself, but the emotion at the moment of revelation and the story behind it.
A later Christmas, I ran out of gift ideas. As AI became increasingly capable of creating music, I had a thought: what if I turned our story, memories, and the things I wanted to say into a song? So I made one and gave it to her as her Christmas gift.
She was genuinely happy and felt that it was something truly special. Her reaction made me realize that we could not be the only people who wanted a gift like this. Many people carry meaningful stories and words for someone they love, but do not know how to turn them into something personal and unforgettable.
So I kept the workflow, refined it, and eventually built MeloLetter—a way for anyone to turn real stories and treasured memories into a song they can give, share, and listen to again and again.

The part that stood out was that the product started from designing an emotional experience rather than generating a song.
I'm curious when you realized the memorable part was the story being transformed, not the AI creating the music itself.
It started because a friend of mine had built an AI music generation product that was getting pretty good traffic.
That made me wonder whether there was still an opportunity to build a business around AI-generated music while the market was benefiting from strong traffic tailwinds. But by then, the space had already become quite crowded, with many competitors. I started thinking that if I wanted to enter the market, I would need to focus on a much more specific niche, identify the right use cases, and build a product around one particular scenario.
Eventually, I chose the idea of using AI-generated music as a personalized gift.
The biggest challenge I’m facing now is marketing and growth. The website still gets relatively little traffic, so I’m wondering what the best way to promote it would be. Do you have any suggestions?
That’s an interesting shift — moving from a broad AI music opportunity to a specific emotional use case changes the validation question quite a bit.
I’d be curious what you’re seeing from the people who do discover Meloletter so far: are they reacting more to the personalization/story aspect, or mainly to the novelty of AI-generated music?
We don't have exact data on that yet, but looking at other competitors, I think what they really focus on is the sense of occasion for that specific moment, plus getting a unique, special gift out of it.

That makes sense. The occasion angle is interesting because the purchase decision may be driven less by the technology and more by whether the recipient feels the gift is meaningful.
It’ll be interesting to see what early customer behavior reveals once you have enough direct signals.
