Mids.ai

I'm aggressively 'building in public' since launch two days ago. Lots of X and Reddit posting (where I can) but mainly just in the direction of updating on my own work and progress.

So far? 0 users, a few visits, little exposure.

Honestly, I just don't have following and that -- combined with the hook being a bit novel in the early days of the vibe coding explosion -- makes it hard to get word out.

But one thing did seem to work yesterday. 💡

I replied to an X post by Ben Tossell of Ben's Bites (bit AI newsletter) where he asked people to share their AI projects. It went well, got a good amount of views and votes and even some big new followers. This felt good.

But more importantly -- it pointed out a POV on Mids.ai that I want to keep following. The positioning as the "Portfolio for listing your projects in a world where everybody is building lots of things all the time" seemed to click a bit.

So today, I worked on overhauling the user profiles / portfolios on Mids.ai to be more oriented to sharing and standalone use.

• Users can now show their profile (just as they already could with project pages) WITHOUT the mids.ai branding around it, simply by adding '/0' to the end of the profile URL. This basically makes link-tree / link-in-bio style pages for showing off project links

• I intend next to let users add projects to their portfolio even if they aren't listed in mids.ai directly. This way, people can link to existing URLs of projects without having to make the Mids.ai page (even though it only takes a few seconds to do that!)

• I still intend eventually to let people sell services / connect with buyers in mids / and even directly monetize their projects (if things get traction over time)

Sticking to my core vision of the future with Mids

I firmly believe that software projects / apps / 'vibe code' / etc. will become a more and more ephemeral, quickly changing space where people will need a place to put all of their work and for others to find it -- and that work wont always be living in fully-fledged websites with domains, social profiles, etc supporting the project.

The jury's out, but I'm building for that world.

True story. In March, my son came two weeks early in the middle of the night.

Sleepless after 48 hours and finally resting on a hospital room couch (wife and son getting their z's) I pulled out my phone and started trying tools like lovable and v0 from my phone, to shape out a new idea that'd been rattling around. Shocked, code was being written.

An important a-ha happened there:
I began thinking about where this brave new world of Vibe Coding was taking us. I have an actual engineering background, sure, but Vibe Coding is undeniably nice. Paradigm shifting, even. Ephemeral ('quick, brief') idea testing is getting easy, everybody can (if they want to) start making stuff, my notepad of stale 'one-day' ideas was getting tackled and shaped.

So what do we need in this new world? What old ways don't really make sense?

• Will people buy domain names for all of their vibe code projects?

• Will they get social handles?

• Proper GTM drum-up and big splashy launches?

It just doesn't seem likely, does it?
Stuff is getting more easy, quick, fun. And the bugs will be worked out.

So I shifted my attention to Mids.ai.
I've owned this domain for a minute now and had a few ideas for it. But this new idea of shaping a place for Vibe Code to launch became my focus for the past month.

Here's the current focus / feature-set of Mids:

• Instant landing pages (literally seconds)

• Optional AI help to generate your project blurbs

• Builder profiles (like a Linktree for your builds)

• Engagement tools: Likes, follows, CTAs, email capture… adding polls soon

• Clean design, simple layouts — no heavy theming (yet)

• Early community: Discord is live, monthly Zooms in the works

• Promo plans / (support for launching): Dedicated TikTok + other channels to help people share what they’re building

• Free to use — marketplace features coming later for monetization

Total build effort: Took about 5 weeks all-in and lots of cloud credits since I tried to lean into 'vibe coding' to build it too. Not 100% that, but lots.

Pro tip: Add /0 to the end of any project’s link to remove the wrapper and make it ultra-shareable as a URL. Usually you can toss up a ready, email-capture landing page in less than 60 seconds.

It's just the start of Mids and I'm sure there are many things to work out (bugs) -- beyond my ideas for improvement features. I'd love your look at what we're doing here, involvement, etc. Early days.
