“I’d just refresh my inbox like that was going to tell me something” is too real. I think it's clever that you’re building around that weird anxiety gap after someone hits send and then has no signal at all.
I keep coming back to the same thing: people struggle when there’s no feedback loop. The privacy piece is interesting too. For sensitive docs, there’s a balance between giving the sender useful clarity and making sure the recipient doesn’t feel like they’re being creepily monitored.
That balance is something I think about a lot, honestly. Right now it's page/duration level, not "they're on this exact pixel for this many seconds" — trying to keep it useful without it feeling like surveillance. Where that line sits is probably the thing I'll keep adjusting as real usage comes in.
And yeah, the anxiety-after-send thing is such a small, dumb feeling but apparently pretty universal — half the reason I built this in the first place.
Good catch, and honestly a fair callout on the feature list — that's on me, tried to cram too much into one post.
Too early to say with real data (just launched), but my honest guess based on the reactions so far: the "hit send and then nothing" pain is what gets people to click, since basically everyone's felt that. The security/data-room stuff feels like it's more of a "oh wait, it also does that" discovery once they're already poking around — not what pulls them in initially, but probably what makes teams with actual sensitive documents (contracts, financials) stick around and upgrade.
If that holds up, it's basically: analytics gets the click, data-room/security gets the retention. But ask me again in a month once I've actually got usage data instead of a hunch.
Will do — if you want, I can tag you here once there's enough data to actually say something meaningful instead of guessing. Appreciate you following the thread.
The positionning here againts Docsend is flawless. As a solo founder building a B2B SaaS, their per-seat pricing has always felt incredibly restrivtive for growing teams. Offering a true free tier with core analytics while charging flat rates is a stellar alternative. I also heavily respect the zero-data-retention approach for the AI summary feature -- when dealing with NDAs and sensitive financials, privacy is non-negociable. Upvoted, dynamic watermarking is great touch ! Great job and good luck for your Launch !
The per-seat thing was honestly the main trigger for going flat-rate — watched too many teams quietly resent their document sharing bill as they grew. Glad the zero-retention call landed too; felt like an easy thing to cut corners on to ship faster, but not really negotiable once NDAs and financials are involved, like you said.
Solo building too, so comments like this genuinely help more than they might seem to — good luck with what you're building as well, happy to swap notes anytime.

About
I kept sending proposals and decks with zero idea if they were even opened — so I built PaperTrack: document sharing with real analytics on the free plan (most tools gate that), flat-rate pricing instead of per-seat.

The “what happened after I hit send” problem is much clearer than the feature list.
Curious whether early users are mainly coming for the engagement analytics, or for the security/data-room side once they realize it’s there.

That makes sense. The distinction between what gets the initial click and what earns retention should be much clearer once you have real usage data.
Exactly, that's the plan anyway. Will report back once there's actual signal instead of a guess.
That makes sense. I’ll be interested to see what the first real usage data says once you have enough signal to separate the two.

Thanks, I’d appreciate that. I’d also be happy to continue the conversation privately if that’s easier — what’s the best email to reach you on?
Sure, m.kibar@papertrack,io works — feel free to reach out whenever, happy to keep talking shop.

Really appreciate this, thank you 🙏
