The positioning shift is the part that stood out to me. You didn't change the product—you changed the reason people cared enough to try it. "Replace your spreadsheet" is an immediate pain people recognize. Privacy is what earns their trust after they're already interested. That's a subtle distinction, but it often makes all the difference.

Indeed, the time saved was the premise and the privacy aspect was just the differentiator, not the other way around.

Thank you for your insights, @Aryan!

        Glad it resonated.

I actually have one more observation about that positioning shift that I don't think fits well in a public thread because it's more about the strategic decision behind the messaging than the messaging itself.

If you're interested, what's the best email to reach you on?

I don't mind - I'm fully transparent here, as my journey might also help other founders. Thank you!

            Fair enough.

The observation is that changing the message also changes what success teaches you.

If people adopt the product because it replaces spreadsheets, future product decisions will naturally reinforce that interpretation. If the bigger opportunity is something else, execution can quietly lock you into one direction before you ever question it.

That distinction is what I found interesting.

About

I built Quantive because I tracked my net worth in a spreadsheet for years and got tired of maintaining it across accounts and currencies. Every existing app was either too complex or wanted my bank details.
