What Is A Farm?
Helping people grow their own food at all different scales
More of my friends were gardening this summer than ever before!
I found it ironic that we'd mostly only talk to each other over the internet, but most of our conversations were about plants. I spent hours FaceTiming with friends from our respective gardens, trading tips and showing off our yields.
Later in the summer I visited a few people for in-person farm/garden tours, and I knew some of my friends would be interested in seeing those too, so naturally I recorded videos!
As I got into my third season of gardening, I realized I had been posting a lot of garden content to my personal instagram account. I had some friends who really liked it, and others... not so much!
So, I decided to split the gardening-related stuff into its own account. The name comes from an inside joke that I'll explain someday...

I knew I wanted to expand my garden this year, and I thought a raised bed made more sense than adding dozens more 5-gallon containers. (Spoiler: I'd eventually do both!)
I really wanted to make use of a bunch of fallen tree limbs from around my yard, rather than buying all the wood. I wound up with a somewhat unique design that looks pretty cool, and some advantages and some disadvantages over more traditional approaches.
If I were doing it all over again, there are things I would definitely do differently. I could have benefitted greatly from talking to some more experienced people first!

I had been putting this off for years, but a chance conversation at a pub the night before lit the fire under my butt to get started. (Someday I'll write up that full story... I think it's pretty funny!)
I knew it was already late in the season, so I went to the closest garden supply center and asked for help picking the vegetable plants that I'd most likely be able to get results from. I left with 3 tomato plants (Big Boy Burpees), 3 pepper plants (Purple Beauties!), and enough compost and loam to fill six 5-gallon buckets.
I got hooked, and I've been expanding my garden ever since!

Good things happen when people grow their own food. They eat healthier. They reduce their dependency on supply chains. They improve the environment.
