Start up tools for business
We are offering a mix of equity and wage now, so have 2 full-time team members joining us, Yvette and Monica.
Monica has been coding for a flight based search company and brings a passion for test writing and coding to tests, with basic principles and integrity in her work. Star in the making we feel.
Yvette is our Mother of the Code, she is handling our governance, HR, and lots of admin and legal stuff ..blurghhhhh she loves it though.
We move to AWS beanstalk, incorporating an array of servers and 3 load balancers to allow us to scale swiftly and efficiently.
This infrastructure move took us from single stand-alone server vertical scalability to horizontal and vertical scale.
Although slow and expensive work this ensures our potential growth can be met with our infrastructure.

Early on we decided to pivot the offering to include video chat as well as PBX and PSTN integration,
Both of which brought us a lot of joy and learning of Asterisk and the Twillio infrastructure.
However, we realised mobile and PBX or voice-only is the new fax machine... it's going to die out.
VOIP is only a digital signal of this medium, business comms and transactions will be video-based in the future.

But we didint win the award !
Weeks of application and presentation work go into Funding applications, we made it through to the event final for Wildcard applications, but simply fell at the last hurdle, we made the last 10 of 300 + applicants and we picked ourselves back up and re-aplied for round 17...

Founding partner Lloyd Hamilton joins the team.
Accepting the role of Head of Emerging Technologies.
Lloyds Ph.D. integrated next-gen RNA sequencing analytics and machine learning to identify novel candidate genes that elicited anti-tumor effects in macrophages.
Lloyd has taken the lead on integrations to Government Systems and has brought us a high energy and focus on development as well as some great thinking on possible future functionality.
Loyd brings a huge understanding of ML and AI to the team as well as the depth of knowledge on data science.

Raised our first 20k for the project.
After several months of proof of conception work and trying to get a handle on what the tools were and how to build a strategy we finally landed some cashooola.
20k was just what was needed to buy a new rig and a few pizzas...

We got accepted onto the AWS ignite accelerator program and with this came 5k of server credits which really assisted us as we developed the codebase and brought more complexity to the tools reaching for more functionality.
The Ignite funding added to our growing put as we developed the plan and started to raise awareness of the project.

The work books project won a place on the RBS Fintech accelerator program, providing us with coaching support, product development work, free offices in a cool Fintech Hub as well as mentoring and introduction support.
We have taught to develop relationships with the cohorts as they join our beta program.

I have started over 19 brands and grown some to multi million pound turnover.
Here in the UK the start up attricion rate is 90% in the first 3 years, its usually the same reasons.
Underfunded, lack of experience, lack of infrastructure.
Business tools COST MONEY and they are designed by accountants and suit-wearing corporate hell monkeys.
I ended up building my own in house tools to help sustain and control my fast growth.
Work-books is my productization of these in-house tools.

I agree with everything you say! When I started to build my business and found out how much money I need to spend on little things, I really wanted to give up. But then, I realized that I can make some things by myself just by using the Internet. For example, I really wanted to have a nice package with my stamp, because I love it, for the design of my stamp I spend just some minutes. I found a free custom stamp maker on https://mystampready.com where I made it. I could pay someone to make it, but I wanted to invest my money in a more important thing for my company.
