ZoneYrd

Yesterday, I launched ZoneYrd on HackerNews and on ProductHunt. And it basically failed. No comment, no interaction. It is ok for me as I have never meant to reach a certain goal. But I noticed that I still have to learn more on how to successfully launch a product. In fact, I even used this to get an idea about those platforms before launching my ambitious project FeatureNinjas.

Lessons learned are:

• Publishing on HackerNews... Well, I haven't had any interaction, so I'm not quite sure what exactly went wrong and what my lessons learned is
• Publishing on ProductHunt... I was surprised to see that after a product is created, there is no obvious way to edit your product post before it goes live. It is only possible by storing a link to the post (search in history of the browser). Also, I missed the exact time when it was launched and I was never able to find it via the search. So before launching anything else, I definitely have to read a couple of articles on how to properly launch on ProductHunt (just thinking: should a website really require a manual nowadays?)
• I have reworked ZoneYrd a couple of times before "publishing" it as I did yesterday and today. Because I always had the feeling that it just doesn't work quite well. So I moved from Azure to Heroku to Firebase. All the time, I had to rewrite some parts of the code. That's not good. Biggest lessons learned for me is that I have to launch and evaluate an idea quickly, before investing too much time on it

In the end, I use this post to somehow allow my mind to go through the process of (complete) failure. But it's ok. I learned. Next time, it will be better :)
