AI search is driving 2% of AEO Copilot traffic but 6% of signups.

To get there, I made (and still make) a lot of mistakes.
Today, let me share what works and what doesn’t.

What doesn't work:
1. Empty shell, vibe-coded pages.
Yes, I know. It's obvious.
But knowing it won't stop it.

For example, I created the AEO Copilot directory. And made sure the SPA (single-page app) was sharing some meta with the LLMs. I assumed the 100's details page would too.

Oups, my bad!

2. Average, well-structured content.

This one needs a bit of clarification. Before, with SEO, all you needed to do was keywords -> content with keywords.
Today, if you just create content with keywords, even long-tail one, you're just in the mass.
Everyone can ask Claude to write an article.
No chance to pop in the AI answers.

And adding a summary and a table won't change anything.

This only works with good content.

3. Frankenstein articles
You know, the kind of articles that go from content writers to SEO optimisation and finally to AEO polishing.
At the end, the article makes no sense anymore.

I tried to recycle some articles I wrote during my previous SEO product. Asked Claude to revisit them and make them "scannable" for AI.
The results? I don't know, nobody saw the article.

Now, let's see what works for AEO Copilot.

1. Clear brand positioning

It took me time.
Like 3 months, but when I finally did it, the mentions started to flow.

When I clarified the branding and harmonised it across all the touchpoints (think LinkedIn, Product Hunt, G2...), I was sending 1 CLEAR message to the LLMs:

"AEO Copilot has a generous free tier, a fair price, and works seamlessly with any AI agent."

This single sentence got the most impact overall.

My recommendation:

Block some time this week. Try to find the edge of where your product is better than the others. Once it's clear, share it everywhere. Starting with your website.

2. Early SEO traction

If you don't show up in search results, you won't show up in AI search answers.

And this is why I don't like to talk about AEO as a single discipline.
AEO is SEO, and SEO is organic growth (everything that drives growth and not paid).

My recommendation:

Start with Keywords but don't stop with SEO; go further and find the questions your users are asking, Claude.

Use Google Search Console, then feed Claude with all your clients’ conversation data (to extract recurring questions, feedback, and verbatim).

Then, you're ready to create prompts and track them with AEO Copilot.

3. Other website mentions.

Your website is the destination, not the first touch point.

Other websites (like LinkedIn) have far more reach.

Use those to share your brand message (see point 1) and let your users come to your website after they find what's best for them.

My recommendation:
Share content beyond your product.
For AEO Copilot, I don't stop to AEO, I share content on how to grow your brand organically too.

Interesting that AI search drives a small share of traffic but a big share of signups. Shows how quality beats quantity. In Finsight AI, I’ve seen similar patterns — fewer but higher‑intent signals matter most.

Really like the angle here. Tracking visibility across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and AI Overviews in one place is becoming increasingly useful, and the MCP integration makes this especially interesting. The free tier is a smart way to let people actually test the value before committing.
