Pure Metrics: Building Privacy-First Analytics as a Solo Founder.

I just launched Pure Metrics — a privacy-first web analytics SaaS — and I wanted to share the story, what I learned and what I'm looking for next.

The Problem

I've been building side projects for years and I kept hitting the same wall with analytics:

  • Google Analytics feels invasive and requires a whole legal/compliance dance

  • Privacy-friendly tools are great but pricey for small projects

  • Rolling my own is way more work than it should be

  • Everyone hates cookie banners

So I decided to build something in the middle: useful analytics without the creepy tracking.

The Build

Pure Metrics is a hosted SaaS with:

  • A <1 KB tracking script (vanilla JS, no dependencies)

  • Real-time dashboard showing traffic, visitors, events and revenue

  • GDPR-friendly by design (no cookies, no personal data)

  • PWA (installable, offline support, push alerts)

Pricing: €9–€149/month depending on scale. 14-day free trial, no credit card.

What Surprised Me

  1. Privacy as a constraint is actually clarifying. When you refuse to collect personal data, your feature scope shrinks drastically. Forced me to ask: "What do people actually need?"

What I'm Struggling With

  • Balancing simplicity vs features. Every new metric feels useful, but I have to resist scope creep.

  • Pricing. Not sure if my tiers hit the right sweet spot for indie hackers vs agencies vs enterprise.

What I'd Love Feedback On

  1. Does this solve a real problem for you?

  2. What would make you actually switch analytics tools?

  3. What's a deal-breaker you've hit before?

  4. Where would you recommend I focus for early growth (content, integrations, partnerships, etc.)?
